MODUS-ANNON AT the Music Box!

April 27th, 2025, I unveil a new piece i’ve been working on!

Modus-Annon is the continuation of a sonic thought experiment about our relationship to the cosmos. Its predecessor, Rearranging the Planets, began the conversation by using the piece The Planets by English composer Gustav Holst as a springboard to talk about the different ways other peoples might regard their own place in connection with most of the celestial bodies in our own Solar System.

But what of the sun and the moon? What do they mean to us? In what way do these 2 ethereal beings influence our thoughts, our opinions, our lives, our existences?

This is Modus-Annon. The consistency with which we humans experience El Sol and La Luna is truly powerful, and Steve Lands seeks to use that ebb and flow to set the tone for what will be his most ambitious work.

He believes that the sun is the universal reminder of ‘what one contributes to the totality of our experience.’ It’s what you choose to do to serve life and those who live it. Whether it be creating a piece of art that shifts the perspective of the one who perceives it, whether it be to feed a hungry person, or whether it be to listen to the woes of a broken spirit. The sun represents what one chooses to give to existence in exchange for that most valuable of currencies: one’s time.

The moon represents ‘why.’ Under the light of the moon, we typically choose to engage in things that fuel us. While not all human experience is the same, there does seem to be by-and-large a common flow to most people’s day. We see a show at night. We typically make love at night. We spend time with our families in the evenings. You have that post-work day drink or smoke in your favorite bar after the sun is away. We pray before going to bed. And we must mention sleep, a literal recharging of the body that works best at night. All these things rejuvenate the soul and he believes that rejuvenation to be in connection with the moon’s presence, almost like it’s giving you nature’s push to care for yourself and those you love to help you continue your journey.

Lands believes art is a reflection of nature. Modus-Annon is the reflection of dusk and dawn, of light and shadow, of the warmth of the day and the cool of the night. It is something that he believes connects every creed and color of person in some way.

Modus-Annon is his connection to you. Forged in the light of the day and presented under the calm of the night. He’ll feel refreshed with his presentation in what he hopes will be the same way you will feel refreshed with your experiencing it.

See you under the stars.
